HSCdataOnline allows you to obtain customized tables with estimates from the HSC Health Tracking Physician Survey. Here are the basic instructions for using HSCdataOnline, plus an example.

Instructions

1. Construct your table.  Indicate what you would like in your table by using the tabs across the top of the page to make these selections:

Topic (required)
Years (2008)
Population types
– whether to disaggregate for PCPs and specialists
Other options – whether to disaggregate results by a variety of factors, such as
                          physician age and gender

You can make your selections in any order, and you can also go back to modify your selections at any time. You need to select which topic you want, but the three other selections are optional because there are defaults that have been pre-specified.

2. See your table. To create your table, click on the tab "Display Table."

3. Save or modify your table, or start again. Once your HSCdataOnline table appears:

Save. You can save your table by clicking on the link to the downloadable version of the table on the "Display Table" page. From there, you will see a short list of instructions for saving your table.
Modify.
You can modify your table by clicking on the tab for the selection that you would like to change, making your changes, and then clicking on the "Display Table" tab again.
Clear.
You can start a new table request by clicking on the button "Clear Selections" that appears on the "Display Table" page and then making new selections.

Example

If you make these selections:

Topic = Competitive situation faced by practice
Year
= 2008
Population types
= See results for PCPs and specialists separately and combined.
Other options
= See results by age.

Then HSCdataOnline will create this table (plus a second table containing standard errors, not shown here):

How to interpret the results: The estimates in the table represent the percentage of physicians within each row. For example, this table shows that, among PCPs less than 40 years old, 33.5 percent reported that the situation faced by their practice was not competitive.

Note that row percentages may not sum to 100.0 because of rounding error.
